We’re Hiring: Citizenship Education Instructor (Contract Position)

Position Description:

The Citizenship Education Instructor will facilitate the Citizenship Class at the FRCoT one evening per week for ten weeks, teaching English literacy, U.S. history and government to adults to prepare them for the naturalization interview and test to become a U.S. citizen. The Instructor will prepare and administer a comprehensive adult citizenship education program using United States Customs and Immigration Service curriculum provided by the FRCoT. A successful class will prepare students for the naturalization interview and test to become a U.S. citizen.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and instruct Citizenship Class to maximize students’ achievements on tests and interview for the naturalization process
  • Develop weekly curriculum for classes
  • Set up and clean up room for class each week
  • Communicate with agency Immigration staff to refer students in need of legal immigration services or volunteer tutors
  • Properly and timely administer all required practice testing to students
  • Participate in necessary trainings

Required Professional Skills:

  • Knowledge of the basic requirements for naturalization
  • Knowledge of U.S. history and civics
  • Understanding of English language, including grammar and spelling
  • Ability to prepare and execute weekly curriculum
  • Strong communication skills to communicate effectively in a large group
  • Comfort teaching students who are at a variety of learning levels and English language abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-directed and able to with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate to ensure a positive and constructive learning environment
  • Experience motivating others in a teacher, coach, or similar role

Required Language Skills:

  • Fluent English (spoken and written),  fluent Spanish (Spoken)

Required Education and Work Experience:

  • Experience teaching preferred

Salary and Benefits:

  • Contract position for 10-week class, April 4 – June 6, 2018. Estimated 3 hours/week (2hr class + 1 hr prep/wrap up)
  • $18-20 hr DOE
